Drug & Alcohol Technician
Today, MHTS serves more than 500 local Chicagoland companies, small and large, administering more than 10,000 drug and alcohol test each year -- All services are provided 24/7 and 365 days per year.
We are adding full-time and part-time Drug and Alcohol Technician positions to support various employers who require pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug and breathe alcohol screening. This position will require the collection of bodily fluids and specimens such as urine, hair, and/or saliva. It may also require observing donors providing specimens.
This position is responsible for completing drug and alcohol collections in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT industry standards, as well as evidential breath alcohol testing requirements.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ensure protection and confidentiality of personal and healthcare data collected; provide exceptional customer service with a positive attitude and demeanor to all employers and employees being tested; and maintain, at least, a 98% Quality Assurance (QA) rate for all tests performed.
The ideal candidate will have the flexibility to work at various locations for scheduled and unscheduled testing to meet the needs of the employers. Candidates will be required to respond to requests for unscheduled services (post-accident and reasonable suspicion testing) within 1 hour of receiving requests.
We offer the following work shifts:
- 6:00am to 2:00pm
- 11:00am to 7:00pm
- 3:00pm to 12:00am
- 11pm to 7am
We are seeking candidates with weekday and weekend availability. Most work assignments will be completed within 2-4 hours. However, some assignments may take longer depending upon the ability of the donor(s) to provide a specimen. Candidates are required to have reliable transportation to commute to the job site.
Job Specific Details and Tasks
- Perform Drug and Evidential Breath and Alcohol Testing
- Master all DOT and Non-DOT testing regulations and standards
- Process and ship specimens on the same day
- Process and distribute paperwork within 2-4 hours of specimen collection
- Complete all specimen and breathe alcohol collection paperwork correctly and completely
- Dependable and punctual – show up on time every time they’re expected
- Secure porta-johns and/or bathrooms and inspect before and after each collection
- Be approachable with a professional demeanor – i.e., polite but clear & authoritative in their interaction with donors
- Accompany donor to restroom/porta-john and inspect immediately before AND after every collection
- Be vigilant about watching temperatures and not at all reluctant to call a specimen unacceptable and go through the re-collection process
- Check work before tearing off the lab copy to be sure nothing on the CCF was missed, also seeing that seals are on the bottles – dated by collector and initialed by donors
- Be willing to stop and call for guidance if there are any issues
- Ensure specimens are transferred to FedEx within four hours of completing the collection and the paperwork is legible as well as submitted to the office the same day via fax, email, or hand delivered
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of customer experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Reliable vehicle
- Must have a cell phone
- Must have a valid and current Driver’s License
- Ability to work independently
- Must be able to travel within a 50-mile radius
- Must be comfortable working in a variety of work settings to include outdoors, small areas, construction sites, etc.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience as a CNA, Medical Assistant, EMT-B, or EMT-P; preferred, but not required
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) is preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of DOT and Non-DOT testing regulations; preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of evidential breath alcohol testing; preferred, but not required
- Experience in a healthcare laboratory, outpatient clinic, or urgent care; preferred but not required

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour, based on experience
